NEW JERSEY
This is an open invitiation to all families with children from Cambodia and/or in the process of adopting from Cambodia to join us for a New Years' celebration here in North Jersey.

The celebration will be held on April 13 at 1 PM in South Orange, NJ. (easy trip by public transportation - or car- for any of the New York families that want to join us).

We are planning fun activities for the kids and after the successful holiday party in December it will be great to see everyone again and meet some more families.

As most of us know, we are a fledging group and it would be great to have a good crowd to kick off what we hope will become an annual tradition.

We are asking that you bring some food, beverage, etc. to help make it as festive as possible.

Please contact me at khmerkids2001@aol.com to RSVP, get directions, or for more info.

Hope to see you soon! Deborah Alessandro

CHICAGO, IL
In Chicago, Chaul Chnam (Cambodian New Year) will be celebrated on Saturday, April 13th. This will be a big day since both the religious celebration during the day and the CAI (Cambodian Association of
Illinois) fundraiser in the evening will occur on that date this year. We have been invited again to celebrate Chaul Chnam with the congregation of one of the Cambodian temples. The celebration will be from about 10 a.m.-1 p.m. the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago just off Lake Shore Drive and north of the Loop. Please contact me privately for more details. That same evening, the Cambodian Association of Illinois
(CAI) will have its annual Chaul Chnam fundraiser. This will feature Cambodian dance and classical music as entertainment, speeches and a sit down Cambodian dinner, followed by everyone doing Cambodian line dancing, which is fun. I have not been told the location or the exact time but last year, it was at a downtown location starting at 6:00. You DO have to buy tickets which you can do at the door. I don't think I've been told what the price will be, but it IS a fundraiser, and they might be anywhere from $50-$75 per person. Obviously, they are looking to build their support base and think that adoptive families might be a good addition (HA!!). That must be because they don't know the finances of adoption! Just kidding. Anyway, as many of you know, I think this is a worthy organization. They do good things for the Cambodian immigrant population in Chicago and also offer Cambodian language and dance classes which are available to our children as well. Again, more details will be forthcoming. Lastly, our local Chicago Fam Cam group is hoping to get together for a family dinner Friday evening. Those plans still are pretty sketchy but should be shaping up soon. Again, please contact me privately for more info. Sarah, Chicago slincoln@rush.edu
